Helping Traumatized Children Learn
The Task Force is pleased to welcome the Trauma and Learning Policy Initiative. The Trauma and Learning Policy Initiative (TLPI) is a nationally recognized collaboration between Massachusetts Advocates for Children and Harvard Law School. Their mission is to ensure that children impacted by adverse childhood experiences succeed in school. To achieve this mission, TLPI advocates for “trauma-sensitive schools” where school-wide trauma sensitivity is a regular part of how a safe and supportive school is run. During the workshop, TLPI will provide an overview of The Flexible Framework. The Framework is an organizational tool that enables schools and districts—in collaboration with families, local community organizations, and outside providers—to maintain a whole school focus as they create trauma sensitive schools.
This training is specifically designed for schools. We encourage school districts to attend as a team. It is recommended, but not required, that the following personnel from each district attend:
• Administration (Superintendent, Asst. Superintendent, Principal, etc)
• Guidance/Adjustment Counselor
• Teacher
• Support Staff
• School Resource Officer/Representative from Town Police
Please coordinate with your school and send one registration email with all the members that will be attending.
If you are with a youth-serving agency that is not a school and feel that this training would be beneficial, please email Edward Jacoubs at edward.jacoubs@state.ma.us
